Instructions for Bear Kits (9" sitting)

To make these bears, you will need:
• Sewing and/or embroidery needle
• Small Scissors
• Straight Pins 1.5” (optional)
• Wooden spoon or chopstick to use as a stuffing tool
PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE STARTING YOUR TEDDY BEAR AND REMEMBER TO HAVE FUN!

Nose
To start, take a handful of white polyfill (tennis ball size) and stuff the nose tip until it's very firm. Then, using small scissors, carefully trim the fur at the end of the nose tip in a triangle shape. This creates a flat surface for the satin stitch. Cut a piece of embroidery thread (in kit) about 4 feet (1.2 metres) long, thread your needle, double the thread and knot at end. Enter through open seam on bear's back and insert the needle from inside the bear's nose coming out at position A. Use the diagram pattern shown below and satin stitch as follows:
Begin the first stitch from point A inside the bear's face and pull out thread to overstitch as you follow the number pattern;
A to 1, then A to 2
A to 3, then A to 4
A to 5, then A to 6
And so on...
Continue until the triangle on the nose is completely filled in with thread.
Mouth
Still using the embroidery thread, follow the diagram shown below and stitch as follows: Begin at point A (same position "A" as the nose) from the inside of the nose and pull out thread to overstitch as you follow the pattern;
A to B (outside stitch from A to B)
B to C (inside stitch from B to C, then outside stitch back to B)
B to D (inside stitch from B to D, then outside stitch from D to B, tie off with knot inside, finish)
Repeat, if necessary.
Complete and finish mouth.
The mouth creates a sweet face for your new bear. Remember, each bear's face is unique and your own style gives Ellie May personality!

Stuffing Your Bear
Stuff the head area gently and add enough polyfill to make it a soft round shape. Then, take the two smallest bean pouches in the kit and drop them into the tips of each paw on the arm with a small amount of polyfill (do not cut the bean pouches open). Use a stuffing tool, such as a wooden spoon or chopstick, and gently push the polyfill into the arm areas. Do the same for the legs with the larger bean pouches. Make sure the last and largest bean pouch is added to the bottom (buttocks) area before filling the bear completely with polyfill. Keep stuffing the bear until it's as big and full as you wish. Make sure the neck is very firm and does not flop over.

Finishing and Completion
To give the snout more shape, take a threaded needle and push the needle inside the base of the neck at "N" (see diagram - top right). Direct the needle up into the head towards Eye #1 and push needle outside face (position AA) at the base of Eye #1. Then push the needle in (position BB) to make a stitch in and out right below the eye. Then push needle down towards base of neck and out at base of neck (N). Pull threaded needle gently downward to make the nose come forward.

Continue with the same thread and needle and repeat with Eye #2. If necessary, gently pull thread until you see the nose and face come together into the right shape. By doing this, the thread makes a V-shape inside the bear's head (see diagram - left) and allows the nose to form properly as the eyes move closer together and finishes the bear's face.

Now the bear is stuffed and the open back seam is to be hand-sewn. Cut a piece of thread (in kit) about 3 feet (1 metre) long, thread your needle, double the thread and knot at end. Hand-sew by using a ladder stitch (see diagram - right) or a whipstitch. Finally, take the ribbon in kit, fold in half and gently wrap around the neck. Loosely tie the ribbon around the neck and tighten slightly as you make and finish the bow. To secure the bow to the bear, take some thread and sew one or two stitches from the base of the neck to attach the bow, then tie a knot and finish. Fluff your teddy bear by shaking gently.
Congratulations!! Your Bears are now complete for years of love and enjoyment!
Enhancing Your Bear (optional)
Here's how to create "toes" on the paws. Cut a piece of embroidery thread 3 feet (1 metre) long, thread your needle, double thread and knot at end. Take needle and enter paw at position AA from bottom of foot, then push needle inside through the top of foot at position BB and completely pull thread through. Take thread and overlay outside the front of paw back to AA position at the paw's bottom and push needle back inside and out at position CC on top of paw. Then overlay thread again outside the front of paw and push through to position DD at bottom. Push needle back up and out at position BB, tie off thread and finish. Personalize your bear by adding little trinkets, memorabilia or adornments you can find or make at home.

Instructions for 5.5" Mini Bear Kits

NANNY’S MINI BEAR KITS, Sweethearts
Before you start making your Sweetheart you will need:
• Sewing needle
• Scissors
• Straight Pins 1.5”
• Chopstick or Wooden Spoon to use as stuffing tool
PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE STARTING AND HAVE FUN!

Stuffing the Bear
Take the two bean pouches provided and insert them into the front paws and allow them to drop into the tips with a small amount of polyfill. It is not necessary to cut open the bean pouches. If needed, use a stuffing tool (such as a wooden spoon or chopstick) and gently push the polyfill into the arm areas. Before completely filling the bear with polyfill, ensure the last and largest bean pouch is added to the bottom (buttocks) area. Take the polyfill and start stuffing the body until desired fullness is achieved. Pay close attention to the neck area to ensure the neck is firm and does not flop over at the seam line.

Finishing and Completion
Once completely stuffed, the open back seam is to be hand-sewn by using a ladder stitch (see diagram below) or a whipstitch. Use thread provided in kit. Finally, take the ribbon provided, fold in half and gently wrap around the neck. Loosely tie the ribbon around the neck and tighten slightly as you make and finish the bow. If you wish to secure the bow to the bear, you can take some thread and sew one or two stitches from the base of the neck to attach the bow and finish. Fluff your teddy bear by shaking gently.

Congratulations!! Your Sweetheart is now complete for years of love and enjoyment!
